I think they'll probably wait until after expansion for that but time will tell

Total speculation on my part, but something that might make sense. If the Penguins go 7F-3D-1G, they will need to expose 1 of Dumolin, Schultz, Maata. Perhaps Shero would be interested in acquiring the guy he drafted in Maata (and probably at a discount given the Penguins roster crunch).

There is no reason to protect Merrill. And as good as Moore was in joining the rush, he wasn't good in his own zone and it's been well documented that the Devils really need to address that area. I'd expose him too. I'm not crazy about Lovejoy and his contract, but as Tod said he was put in a role too large for him. I still think he's a good PK guy who can log more minutes here and there. So I'd keep him.

The only players currently on the Devils that they must protect are Hall, Zajac, Henrique, Palmieri, Greene, and Severson. Shero should absolutely try to take advantage of that situation to grab some decent players from other teams that they'd otherwise lose to Vegas for nothing.

Only two years left on Cammys contract if made available which he should be I think there's a good chance Vegas takes him he's a proven goal scorer and his contract will help them get to the cap floor injuries might steer them away if that happens I hope they take DSP

Totally agree. IMO this is where the Devils can slightly expedite the re-build process. We have the cap space, the draft picks, and don't have too many difficult decisions with the expansion rules.

Really hope Vegas claims DSP not a fan of his he should of been given a 1 year prove it contract instead of the two year deal if he isn't claimed I hope Shero places him on waivers worst case we bury his 1.3 million contract in Albany for a season.

Hynes made him a healthy scratch, so it's more than just the contract. He's definitely slowing down and if he doesn't fit the scheme then there's no harm in exposing him. I don't think this article is "who do we want Vegas to claim" but more about who are willing willing to let go.

These were my thoughts exactly as well.

This is a team that can't score goals for poop. Cammy was 6th on the team while playing 61 games. I can't see the 5 mil hit preventing any signings considering the cap space available.

I'd say bring Cammy back.

Personally, I like Maatta, but I think the FO will be open to trading him this offseason. Our needs are 3C and top 4 D, so I don't really see the Devils being a trade partner. I doubt we'll be dumping Maatta for futures.

It's pretty much a crap shoot after Greene band severson

I think expose Cammy and Greene. You can only lose one, and for a rebuilding team you only need so many old guys and can use that money elsewherd. Before you bury me, I think we started to see the downside of Greene's skill this year, it will not end pretty.

You can still get a return for Greene, and before you assume he has lost skill, keep in mind he was paired most of the year with Lovejoy playing lots of minutes against the opponents best. Not an easy assignment.

This is really one of the first articles I totally disagree with Todd on. It only makes sense to make trades before the expansion draft when teams are over a barrel. We can only lose 1 player and Cammalleri is the best pick for Vegas and for Devils to move forward. Makes easy option to go 8-1 in players with those big 4 forwards, Greene, Severson, and pick up two defensemen. Brodin (or Dumba) as well as Vatanen would likely be left of their teams lists right now and be too good to lose for nothing. Trades before expansion are where Shero makes his money.
